The Gold Rush Program 7 segments or modules. They are:

1. Introduction - overview of sources and methods of the program's development.
*Run time: 3 minutes
Run time with dialog and interaction: 10-20 minutes
Flash cards: 6 (6-12 minutes)

2. Early Explorers -- Sutter, Bidwell, the Donner Party and other early explorers provide an look at the difficulties these explorers faced. It also explorers the science behind the terms and concepts used by the early explorers.
*Run time: 10 minutes
Run time with dialog and interaction: 30-60 minutes
Flash cards: 33 (30-60 minutes)

3. The Gold Rush -- includes travel routes, science of the era and facts and figures on California's early growth.
*Run time: 12 minutes
Run time with dialog and interaction: 30-60 minutes

4. Placer and Hydraulic Mining -- explores the earliest mining methods used during the Gold Rush defining terms and includes many first-person stories.
*Run time: 10 minutes
Run time with dialog and interaction: 30-60 minutes

5. Hard Rock Mining -- discusses the methods needed to extract gold from quartz rock.
*Run time: 8 minutes
Run time with dialog and interaction: 20-60 minutes
Flash cards: 6 (6-30 minutes)

6. Occupations and Industries -- talks about the need for support services, the building of an infrastructure, and the industries that sprang up to serve the miners and settlers of early California.
*Run time: 8 minutes
Run time with dialog and interaction: 20-60 minutes
Flash cards: 10 (10-45 minutes)

7. Geography -- maps and details about the towns and areas mentioned throughout the first six segments. Links through the first six segments enable you to jump directly into the Geography section to get more details or examine maps of the area. Or, the Geography segment can be used as a stand-alone educational segment. There are lots of links to get more details on people and events that were unique to a particular location.

*Run time is playing the module like a movie without interaction or discussion with the students. The best learning results will come from both dialog with students and utilizing the interactive elements within the program to explore topics further.
