First in the West, The Sacramento Valley Railroad

$3.00

When the Sacramento Valley Railroad (SVRR) came into Folsom, Ca. in February 1856, it signaled the dawn of a new era in the history of the West. The construction of this first railway west of the Rockies paved the way for the transcontinental railroad. It brought together the engineering, legislation, financing, and optimism necessary to realizing the dream of a railroad across the contient. Theodore Judah was the Chief Engineer of the SVRR who believed in the dream and vowed to be part of that road. This 22 page booklet is well illustrated and covers why the railroad was built, the builders, construction, the grand opening and how it contributed to the development of the town of Folsom, California, along with the legacy it left behind.
